Automobile Accident

When you are involved as a driver or passenger in an automobile accident you should have a prompt examination to determine the presence or absense of injuries to your bones, muscles, ligaments, and nerve and organ structures.

The body sustains different types of injuries depending on the speed of the impact.

Under 10 mph - low velocity injury: may result in muscle strain or traumatic brain injury (TBI) which is caused by a blow or jolt to the head. Pain and stiffness usually occur 12-36 hours after impact.

Above 10 mph - high velocity injury: may cause your body to collide with an object within the car (such as the steering wheel). Shoulder, head, and neck injuries are typical with this type of accident.

Traumatic Cervical Syndrome (whiplash): is caused by sudden extension and flexion of the neck. You may not experience pain or symptoms for several days following the injury.
